22kW on a three-phase supply. Only worth it if your home already has three phase and your car accepts more than 7kW of AC charging, which most don't.

We quote and manage. A registered electrician does the wiring.
You sign one contract, with us. A registered electrician from our partner installer does all the electrical work, tests it and issues the Certificate of Compliance in their own name. We never touch the wiring, and we don't claim a registration we don't hold.

A 7.4kW charger suits almost every New Zealand home
Almost every home here is single phase, which caps a charger at 7.4kW. That's not a compromise: overnight it puts back far more range than the average daily drive, and EECA rates a dedicated smart charger at about three times the speed of a 3-pin plug.
22kW only helps if your home already has three phase andyour car's onboard AC charger accepts more than 7kW. Most cars sold in New Zealand don't. Check the maker's AC charging figure, not the DC fast-charging one, before you spend the difference.

Three things that are usually left until install day
One price, from photos
For a standard install nobody needs to visit first. Five phone photos answer the questions a site visit would, and the electrician turns up once, to do the work.
Switchboard work priced up front
The biggest variable in a New Zealand charger quote is the board, at $1,500 to $3,000. It goes in the same quote as a named line, not as a surprise with an electrician in your driveway.
Balance after the certificate
A $500 deposit, refundable any time before installation starts. The rest is invoiced once the Certificate of Compliance is in your hands.
What's in the price, and what isn't
Nobody in New Zealand publishes this in writing, which is why so many “fixed” prices stop being fixed. Here's ours.
Every package includes
- The charger: Supplied new, with the maker's residential warranty in your name.
- Mounting: Fixed to a suitable wall in the spot agreed from your photos: timber-framed, weathertight, ground floor.
- A dedicated circuit: Its own circuit and protection device in your existing switchboard, sized for the charger.
- The cable run: Surface-mounted cable from the switchboard to the charger, up to the length set in your quote.
- Testing and commissioning: The electrician tests the installation and sets the charger up on your phone.
- The Certificate of Compliance: Issued by the registered electrician who did the work, and emailed to you. Your balance is only due after this.
Priced separately, in the same quote
- Switchboard work: An older board with no spare capacity, ceramic fuses or no RCD protection needs work before a charger goes on it.
- Extra cable: Anything past the cable length in your quote, priced per metre.
- Brick, block or concrete wall: Harder to fix to and to run cable through than timber framing.
- Trenching: For a detached garage or carport where the cable has to go underground.
- A new or upgraded supply: Going to three phase, or lifting your amperage, involves your lines company and is quoted separately.
Per-item prices go here once our installer's written rates are agreed. Until then an extra is quoted as a named amount on your individual quote, before you pay anything.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install an EV charger in NZ?
Most 7.4kW single-phase home installs cost $1,500 to $2,500 all up, charger included. Three-phase 11–22kW jobs run $2,500 to $5,000. Switchboard work, if your board needs it, adds $1,500 to $3,000. The full cost breakdown.
Why photos instead of a home visit?
Because photos answer the questions a visit would: can the switchboard take the circuit, how far is the cable run, what's the wall made of, and is the supply single or three phase. Evnex already quotes New Zealand installs this way, and Pod and Octopus do it in the UK. It means the electrician turns up once, to do the work. Which photos we need.
Will my switchboard need upgrading?
Maybe, and the photo settles it. A board with a spare way and RCD protection usually needs nothing. A board with ceramic fuses and no residual current protection needs work first, at $1,500 to $3,000. Either way it's priced in your quote before you pay, not found on install day. Who actually does the installation?
A registered electrician from our partner installer. They do all the electrical work, test it and issue the Certificate of Compliance in their own name. We quote the job, hold the contract with you and manage it. We are not electricians and we hold no electrical registration.
Is there a government subsidy for a home charger?
No. There is no New Zealand government subsidy or rebate for a home EV charger. EECA publishes an approved smart-charger list and running-cost guidance, but no grant is attached to it.
When do I pay?
A $500 deposit when you accept the price, fully refundable any time before installation starts. The balance is invoiced only once the electrician has issued your Certificate of Compliance. How it works.
